Istanbul Airport Prayer Rooms (IST): Locations, Wudu and Parking Guide

Istanbul Airport (IST) has prayer facilities throughout the airport. The airport states that it has 44 masjids, with 22 designated for women and 22 for men, plus three prayer rooms for people of all faiths. Its official guides say that prayer facilities include digital prayer-time displays and ablution areas.[1] [2]

Quick answer: For international departures, use the official Istanbul Airport map and look for a masjid near your current gate or area. Published landmarks include locations across from Gates A1, A5, D3, and F9, plus locations beside Gate A4 and Gate B10. If you are driving, confirm whether you need the terminal prayer facilities, the Yellow Car Park masjid, or the Ali Kuşçu Mosque before parking. The airport’s facility map should be checked again on the day of travel.[1] [3]

Start with the right type of prayer space

Istanbul Airport uses more than one term for prayer facilities. A masjid is a Muslim prayer facility. A prayer room may be an inclusive space for people of different faiths. The airport also has Ali Kuşçu Mosque near the terminal entrance.[1]

Use the official airport map or ask an information desk this exact question:

“I am in the [international / domestic / transfer] area near [your gate or landmark]. Where is the nearest masjid or prayer room, and is there an ablution area nearby?”

This is more reliable than searching only for the word “mosque,” because the nearest facility may be labelled a masjid or prayer room on airport signage.

Istanbul Airport prayer rooms and masjid locations

The airport’s official facilities page lists multiple locations by travel area and nearby landmark. The table below gives clear published examples, but it is not a substitute for the live airport map: the airport states that it has 44 masjids in total.[1]

Travel area Officially published landmark What to do
International Across from Flight Gate A1 Use the official map to confirm your current concourse and walking time.
International Next to Flight Gate A4 Check the gate display before walking; gates can change.
International Across from Flight Gate A5 Ask staff whether the route remains within your boarding area.
International Next to Flight Gate B10 Follow gate-area signs and confirm the nearest available facility.
International Across from Flight Gate D3 Use the airport map for current access details.
International Area F, next to Swarovski Useful landmark for passengers already in Area F.
International Escalator entrance across from Flight Gate F9 The official page also lists a multi-faith prayer room at this landmark.
International arrivals Across from Baggage Claim Belt 16 Confirm access after arrival with airport staff or the live map.
Transfer Next to the Visa Control Office Ask transfer staff before leaving your connection route.
Domestic Across from the Food Court Area Terrace Check the current domestic gate area and boarding time.
Domestic Next to Simit Sarayı Use this named outlet as a map landmark.
Domestic Across from Flight Gate G5 or G1 Choose the location nearest to your actual gate.
Departures floor Next to the Customs Office Check whether this route fits your security and check-in status.
Yellow Car Park Across from Floor R C03 This is a parking-area masjid; see the driving section below.

Istanbul Airport also lists three inclusive prayer rooms in international Area F and near the escalator entrance across from Gate F9.[1] For the full and current facility list, use the airport’s official Prayer Rooms page and its live Airport Map.

Wudu and ablution facilities

The airport’s Hajj and Umrah guide states that its prayer rooms have ablution areas and digital prayer-time displays.[2] Do not assume that every listed room has the same entrance or amenity layout. When you arrive, ask politely:

“Is there an ablution area in this masjid or nearby?”

If you are short on time, ask for the nearest masjid rather than walking to a specific location from an old screenshot. Airport operational layouts and access paths can change.

How to reach a prayer space when you are driving or parking

The most important decision is whether you need a prayer facility inside the terminal, in the Yellow Car Park, or at the Ali Kuşçu Mosque. These are different destinations.

1. Parking for international or domestic terminal access

Istanbul Airport says that the Blue, Yellow, and Red car parks are closer to international departures and arrivals, while the Turquoise and Purple car parks are closer to domestic departures and arrivals.[3]

After parking, make a note of your colour block, level, and column number. The airport’s official parking information says that vehicle entry is via Level P1 and exit is via Level P2, and it provides a “Find My Car” function in its app.[3]

For a terminal prayer room, walk into the relevant terminal first and then use the live terminal map or information desk. Do not rely on the Yellow Car Park masjid if your flight process requires you to be inside the terminal or after security.

2. Yellow Car Park prayer space

The airport’s prayer-room page lists a masjid across from Floor R, C03 in the Yellow Car Park.[1] This may be a practical option for a driver or passenger already using that parking area. Confirm the current route from your parking level before walking.

3. Ali Kuşçu Mosque

Istanbul Airport’s Hajj and Umrah guide says that Ali Kuşçu Mosque is within walking distance of the airport.[2] The airport’s parking page also says that visitors who park to pray at Ali Kuşçu Mosque should scan their parking ticket at a kiosk inside the mosque. If the ticket is scanned within the first 35 minutes, the parking page says no fee is charged for the first 35 minutes from entry; longer stays are charged according to the parking tariff.[3]

Parking terms, fees, and routes can change. Check the official parking page before your trip and do not treat this guide as a live parking-price source.

International departures: a practical route

  1. Check your terminal status and boarding gate in the airline app.
  2. Complete check-in and security with enough time to reach a gate-area facility.
  3. Open the official airport map and search for Masjid or Prayer Room.
  4. Select a location close to your current area, such as Gate A1, A4, A5, B10, D3, F9, or Area F where applicable.[1]
  5. Check your boarding time again before walking away from the gate.
  6. If you cannot find the route, ask staff for the nearest masjid using your current gate number.

Transfer passengers: do not leave your connection route without checking

The airport lists a transfer-area masjid next to the Visa Control Office.[1] If you are connecting between flights, ask transfer staff whether the facility is reachable without affecting immigration, security, or your next boarding process. A long walk across a large airport can be risky if your connection is short.

What to bring and what to check

Check Why it matters
Boarding pass and terminal Some routes and transit areas may require passenger access.
Current gate number The closest prayer space depends on where you are now.
Official airport map or app Helps verify landmarks and walking routes on the travel day.
Time until boarding Prevents a missed gate call after a long walk.
Location of wudu facility Not every facility is arranged in the same way.
Parking colour and level Makes it easier to return to your car after prayer.
